Just Who Is This Jessica Chobot Chick Anyway?

After being on vacation all of last week I had a whole bunch of gaming podcasts to catch up on. Anyway I finally got around to listening to IGN's Three Red Lights Podcast. They had a special guest because Nate was gone. That special guest was Jessica Chobot. I'm thinking who in the hell is Jessica Chobot? I was even more interested in finding out who she was when they mentioned that she had made some top 100 hottest women list on IGN. On top of being on this hot list the woman knows her games. A hot gaming chick? Wow, is it possible I thought to myself. The woman even has her own gaming blog, and get this...she even works at IGN! Why is it that I don't know who she is? It's not like I'm a gaming n00b. I know who people in the gaming industry are. Apparently I only know the doofy gaming guys though. I mean a chick like this would have to stand out like a turd in a punchbowl amongst all of the gaming dorks. After doing a small bit of research (that research being Google image search) I have discovered that she is indeed hot! I really can't tell you much more about her. I don't really even care. She's hot and she plays games. What more do I really need to know? Here's her blog Check out the tribute she does to the GTA 4 hooker. BTW in case you're a total idiot and need me to point it out that's her on the toilet.

Hitler Banned From Xbox Live

For my 100th blog entry I'm posting this hilarious youtube video of Hitler's reaction to being banned from Xbox Live. If you own a 360 you'll love this. Even if you don't you may like it. I laughed out loud a few times. Enjoy. :)

Why NPD Numbers Are Crap And Other Thoughts

The NPD numbers for April were released a little while ago. I really don't care. I haven't cared for a while now. Untill every console and piece of software is counted these numbers really don't mean shit. I mean sure you can get an idea of what is being bought, but it's just that. It's an idea. Sony and Microsoft will continue to put their own spin on the NPD numbers month after month. Meanwhile Nintendo doesn't have to put a spin on the numbers because even though the numbers are just an idea of what is being sold Nintendo is clearly beating Sony and Microsoft as far as console sales are concearned. It's just insane how many Wii's are being sold month after month. NPD numbers only count for 60% of the consoles and games being sold. According to the NPD numbers the Nintendo Wii sold 714,200 in the month of April. That doesn't even include all of the other Wii's that the NPD numbers don't include. That's a staggering number. Nintendo destroys Sony and Microsoft month after month. I know I said that npd numbers are crap. I believe they are as far as the console "war" between Sony and Microsoft goes. The reason I say this is because the numbers are always so close that month after month there really is no "winner". The only only clear cut winner is Nintendo. You can't even argue that Nintendo isn't winning the console war. I don't even want to hear the crap about the Wii not being in the same league because if you for one minute think that Nintendo hasn't taken some money away from 360 and PS3 sales you're dead wrong.

Nintendo must be laughing all the way to the bank. Who would have thought that there was a market for a console with motion controls and last gen graphics? This just makes Nintendo look incredibly smart. The Wii really only could have went two ways. It could have failed miserably or did what it's doing now...kicking ass. Nintendo was smart to market this console towards the casual gamer. It's really a no brainer. The average gamer is NOT hardcore. The only people I ever hear rag this console are surprise surprise hardcore gamers. Microsoft certainly isn't ragging the Wii. They are currently working on a motion controller. Dumb idea, but I'll get back to that later on. There are a few reasons why the Wii has taken off the way it has. First off Americans like a gimic. It's a fact. Americans are like sheep. If something is new and cool and everyone is doing it it's more than likely that a huge percentage of americans will jump on the bandwagon. At this point Nintendo really doesn't even have to spend money on advertising. Word of mouth is selling this console. People want to know what all of this Wii Remote motion control is all about. Want another reason why the Wii is kicking ass? It's cheap at 250 bones. Not only are americans sheep, but they're cheap sheep too. If Mom and Dad go to the store to buy little Johnny a video game console that 250 dollar price is a hell of a lot more attractive than the 400 bucks for a PS3 or a 360. If the 360 had started out at 250 bucks it would probably have sold a hell of a lot better than it has. With all of that being said I own all three current gen consoles. I play my 360 the most, but I am definitely not a casual gamer. At the same time I play my Wii more often than I play my PS3. When people come over I can find plenty of games to play with them on the Wii. The same can't be said for the PS3 and the 360.

Microsoft, you're about to make a huge mistake. Don't bother with a motion controller. It's going to be a flop. You can't compete with Nintendo in this area, so don't even try. Stick to what you know. I can also see backlash from all of the hardcore 360 gamers. This console is for the hardcore gamer. You don't have the same audience that Nintendo does, and you never will. You won't even make a dent.

I found one major thing that is wrong with GTA4. Can you say NO MID MISSION SAVES!!!
Tell me Rockstar why in the hell do I have to drive all the way back to the point on the map where the mission takes place after I fail it over and over and over again?! It's pointless! I know how to drive! Just friggin' start me back at the point where the damn mission begins! Hopefully I'll finish GTA4 sometime befor July!!!

I've decided that I will no longer be buying every 360 game that comes out. Yes, I was guilty of doing this all of last year. Basically if a game got a review of 7 or higher I was buying it even if I had read that the game could be finished in 6 or 7 hours. Now for me to buy a game like that the multiplayer mode had better be damn good! I'll be renting a lot more often now. Dark Sector that means you'll be a rent and not a buy.

One Of THE Hottest Women Of The 80's

In the 80's Susanna Hoffs rocked my world. Not only could she sing, but she was hotter than lava. Did I say was? She still is hotter than lava! I've always had a thing for brunettes. Blondes and redheads take a backseat to brunettes in every way.
Susanna Hoffs is the ultimate brunette. When she gives you those bedroom eyes in the "Walk Like An Egyptian" video you just want to melt. Madonna hasn't got a thing on Susanna Hoffs. Madonna is dog meat compared to Susanna. When you look in the dictionary for the word "sexy" Susanna Hoffs should be the picture you see right next to it. Now I shall go away to dream about Susanna singing "In Your Room" to me.

Mountain Dew Baja Blast Rules The World

After going to watch my nephew race at Galesburg Speedway it was late and me and the wife were hungry. I don't eat fast food regularly, but hey I was hungry and Taco Bell seemed better than the crap that Burger King or McDonalds has. Not to mention my love for Mountain Dew Baja Blast that you can only get at Taco Bell. I don't even drink non-diet soft drinks. Baja Blast is pretty much the only exception. Pepsi should really consider making Baja Blast available in stores. Why in the world would it be exclusive at Taco Bell? I don't ever remember any restaurant having a unique flavor that is exclusive to just their restaurant. With that being said it's probably a good thing that I can't get it in stores. At the moment I'm totally addicted to Diet Dr.Pepper Cherry Chocolate Soda. That's bad enough.

It seems like Pepsi has no idea what the hell they're doing. I've also seen people complain online about Mountain Dew Pitch Black being a limited edition flavor. If I was a dork that believed in petitions I'd start one to get Baja Blast in stores. We all know petitions don't work though, so I'm not about to waste my time.

I almost forgot the most important part of Baja Blast besides the great flavor. The color is of this stuff is just awesome. It rules to be able to drink something that looks this cool.

Things I Did On Vacation

My vacation revolved around video games, movies, and hanging out with my 16 year old nephew for five days. It was a good time. I didn't have to spend a ton of cash or even drive a far distance to have fun. Fun was found playing video games, goofing off, and watching movies.

We played the following games...

Mario Strikers Charged on the Wii (Totally fun game. It's basically a super charged soccer game where you can tackle other players on the fiesld and score in various ways. I didn't know what to expect when I rented this, but man was it a blast. I'll pick this up eventually. We also played against some people online and basically got our butts kicked more than I thought we would.)

Mario Kart Wii (Fun game, but irritating online. It seems like you get punished for being in the top four. Players that are behind you get insane power ups that totally wipe you out and put you back really quick. Definitely irritating.)

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games for WII (Pretty crappy for the most part. A few events were kinda fun.)

Super Smash Brother Brawl (I own this, but probably not for long. It's just a weak game imo. It got so many great scores. I have no idea why.)

Toejam & Earl (I used to play this back in the day with my wife. All these years later it's on the virtual console for the Wii. It's still fun!)

Super Mario 3 On Virtual Console (Yep, I still love it. It's one of my favorite games ever.)

Super Mario World On Virtual Console (This has to be the most challenging of all of the Super Mario games. Fun, but a pain in the ass at times.)

Wario Ware: Smooth Moves On Wii (My daughter likes this game a lot. Me, not really.)

MLB 08 The Show PS3 (My nephew got a kick out of beaning all of my batters and getting just about every pitcher he had ejected. He's not a big sports game fan. I beat him something like 24-1. He wasn't trying though.)

Wits & Wagers Xbox Live Arcade (Not a bad trivia game. Nothing special though. Not worth 800 points in my opinion.)

Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action for Xbox 360 (Totally unfair advantage over the 16 year old. LOts of older movies that he had never seen.)

Call Of Duty 4 (Fun times even on split screen)

Army Of 2 (I've already played through once and finished it, but decided to start a campaign with my nephew. We both enjoyed it quite a bit. I still say this game gets a bad rap.)

Aegis Wing (Fun and challenging as hell. I still don't think I've gotten a single achievement for this game.)

When we weren't loading our faces with pizza and junk food or playing games we were watching movies...

We went and saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It was good, but not great. The only thing holding it back was all of the over the top ridiculous things that could just never happen. I can deal with a few things during the course of a movie, but there were just so many silly moments. Obviously I can't go into the silly moments because I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't. On a 0-10 scale I give it a 7/10.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (I had already seen this a couple of times, but my nephew hadn't, and I wanted him to see it because I knew he'd crack up. Personally I think it's a laugh riot.)

American History X (Great movie. This was the second time watching it)

Shrooms (This was pretty weak. I had figured out who the killer was pretty quick.)

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (Quite a few funny moments. It was better than I expected it to be.)

We also watched a couple of episodes from Planet Earth on Blu-Ray. My nephew said he had learned more from those two episodes than he had learned in school. I told him it was because Planet Earth was edutainment.

I also broke out the first two Pantera videos...Cowboys From Hell and Vulgar Video. Had watched those in a while. Still fun to watch.

My next vacation is the week of July 4th. Don't know what I'm going to do that week, but whatever it is it will be better than going to work!

Songs That Have A Vibe Like No Other

There are a ton of songs that just have "it". Songs that are like no other. Songs that just have that special something. It's hard to put a finger on just what I'm talking about. Basically when you hear it you just get chills. I can name several, but I'll give a few examples and then revisit this topic later on.

First up is The Ozark Mountain Daredevils with "Jackie Blue". This song is kind of haunting. Again it's one of those songs like no other. Supposedly it's a song about a person they know who was strung out on drugs. This song brings back memories from when I was just a little kid...probably around when I was only 5 years old. When I was a kid I thought it was a woman singing. It's not.

"The Voice" by The Moody Blues will forever haunt me. I was staying at my Uncle's house when my father was in the hospital battling cancer. I remember being woken up by this song playing in the next room on a clock radio. It was playing really loud. I just remember getting this really strange and terrible feeling that something was wrong. Something was wrong. I found out a while later that my father had passed away.

Jefferson Starship's "Miracles" has a vibe all it's own. This is easily one of the best songs ever created. It's just genius. It has a great melody. It's powerfull. It's just an incredible song. This one also brings me back to when I was very young.

In My World

My world is anything but exciting. It's generally a bore. I'm a video game addict. I'm a Dallas Stars hockey addict. I'm a 30 something who is hopelessly stuck in the 80's. Once in a while I'll go out and see a movie, and I like to go out to eat. As my daughter would say "That Was Random". Yep, it was. Now some random thoughts about things that rattle around in my head.

I'll be putting as many hours into gaming as I possibly can next week because I'll be on vacation. My nephew should be coming over, so tons of gaming fun will be had by both of us I'm sure.

GTA4 is rocking my world. Believe the hype people. It is that damn good. I've looged over 34 hours now, and I don't see any end in sight. The main reason why I haven't been posting video game related blog entries is because I just can't bring myself to make a daily GTA4 blog. The single player campaign is wicked awesome, and the multiplayer modes are fun as hell.

My Dallas Stars won game 4 to avoid being swept by the dreaded Red Wings. That gave me a bit of satisfaction. They are sure to lose this series, but at least they didn't go down without a fight. Oh, and one more thing...red wings fans have got to be the biggest bunch of excuse making sore losers I have ever known. What do you call 100 red wings fans trapped on a bus at the bottom of the ocean? A good start!

The past two days I've been rocking out to nothing but 70's and 80's tunes on my mp3 player at work.

I have a great idea for a blog entry that the guys are sure to like. It's going to take some time and thought, but you'll dig it. I promise.

You better believe that I'll be hauling ass to the movie theatre to see the new Indiana Jones movie while I'm on vacation. How awesome is it that we got a new Rocky, Rambo, and now Indiana Jones? Very awesome is my reply!

I now leave you with the best commercial jingle in the history of commercial jingles. I love it!

Julie Brown, You Comedy Genius

Last night I loaded my mp3 player with over one hundred songs from the 70's and 80's. One of those songs was Julie Brown's The Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun. I've heard it several times never really paying much attention to the lyrics. I must have busted out laughing at least 5 or 6 times. One part in particular had me in stitches. The part where she says "I Did It For Johnny" just made me lose it. Me and a friend of mine drove people insane in English class when we had to read "The Outsiders" as well as watch the movie. Let's just say that everything we did in that class from that day on we did for Johhny and we let everyone know repeatedly that we did it for Johnny. Anyway, funny ass song. "Cause I'm A Blonde" rules as well.

Top 5 One Hit Wonders Of 1989

1989 was a big year for me. I made some stupid mistakes, but it was a fun year. It was the last year of the 80's. I can remember it hitting me hard on new years eve that I would be saying goodbye to my favorite decade. My best memories still remain in the 80's. Everything seemed exciting, fresh, and new. It was by far the most fun part of my life. The music was incredible, and the movies were as well. No decade can hold a candle to the greatness of the 80's.

1) Kix - Don't Close Your Eyes (I was really into this band at the time. I had just discovered Kix the year before with the album Midnight Dynamite thanks to a friend at the time. It was really kinda weird hearing this on the radio. Kix was one of those bands that got labeled a hair band, but I didn't think they deserved that tag. They were better than 99% of the bands being called hair bands. The only other band that I can think of that I like better is Great White. At the time I was a huge Thrash Metal fan, but for some reason Kix just did it for me. It's a damn good power ballad. They should have been way more popular than they were.

2) Modern English - I Melt With You (This song was originally heard here in America in the summer of 83 thanks to the movie Valley Girl. It was released again in 1989. It was a slightly different version this time around. It seems criminal that this song never hit the top 40 either time. Either way, it's a damn good song that brings back memories of middle school whenever I hear it.

3)Bonham - Wait For You (I love the drums on this song. Jason Bonham kicks ass. THis song just has a great vibe, and yes it does have that Zeppelinesque sound to it for obvious reasons.

4) L.A. Guns - The Ballad Of Jayne (Yep it's another ballad, and damn is it a good one. I never really cared about this band at all. This happens to be one that they hit out of the park though.

5) Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians - What I Am (This is one of those songs that I'm pretty damn sure would just annoy the hell out of my wife. She just can't stand repetitive songs like this. Me, I like it!

That's it for my notable one hit wonders of the 80's. After looking at some of the one hit wonders of the 70's I'm really thinking about visiting those songs next.

Top 5 One Hit Wonders Of 1988

It's been a couple days, but I'm finally posting a new blog entry. It's been a shit weekend as far as my mood goes for various reasons that I'm not about to get into. When I'm in a shitty mood I definitely don't feel like being the least bit creative. With that out of the way...a couple of songs that I kinda forgot about ended up on this list. Thankfully we have have things like Limewire on the net, so that I can go download songs for free. I'll be grabbing a couple of the songs on this list.

1) Midnight Oil - Beds Are Burning (Probably the most obvious choice, but I like it. LETS GIVE IT BAAACK!)

2) Danny Wilson - Mary's Prayer (It's a light tune you would find on an adult contemporary station these days, but it's a song that just stays with me. Mellow, but good.)

3) The Church - Under The Milky Way (I really don't know much about this band, but I'm thinking I should really delve deeper into the other music that they have to offer. Kinda depressing vibe, but I like a good depressing tune that makes you feel like taking a bottle of sleeping pills now and then. Apparently Rick Springfield covered this song on his covers album. It was also part of the Donnie Darko soundtrack)

4) When In Rome - The Promise (This is a song that radio didn't happen to kill when it was a hit, so it sounds kinda fresh. I hear it on the 80's station on XM Radio once in a while.)

5) Giant Steps - Another Lover (Just a goofy simple little pop song with a repetitive chorus. I could listen to this a few times a year, but that's about it. Nothing special really.)

Not A Thing Going On

When a great game is released it's like the video game world stops. It doesn't exactly stop, but it takes huge video game news for anyone to take notice. There isn't much of anything happening as far as video game news goes. Every gaming podcast I listen to is of course talking about GTA 4. That's really not a bad thing. I am really enjoying the game, but all the talk could and probably will get old really fast. Another good thing is that I don't see my wallet taking a hit for a while because GTA 4 hasn't left my 360, and I don't see any games that I really want for a few months. Unless something gaming related moves me to blog about it I could be focusing on the robster craws side of the blog. That's not a bad thing though. Get ready for tons of 80's related pop culture blog entries. I can always give my top 5 funniest Revenge Of The Nerds scenes.

Charter Communications Sucks

For the past couple of days I've had no internet thanks to the wonderful company that is Charter Communications. It seems like every three months we end up with no service. Talk about a Mickey Mouse operation. Is there anything worse than having no service when you're an online video game player and a blogger?

GTA 4 has consumed my life. Yes, it really is that damn good. I'm having a blast now. I finally played a few multiplayer modes. I had a really fun time. I ended up playing with some really cool people that I didn't know. I even added a guy to my friends list. Let me just say that it doesn't get much better than playing team deathmatch with rocket launchers as your only weapon, well that and a knife. I also played single player death match. Talk about chaotic fun! I was jacking cars and just hitting the other players at about 65 mph. Oh, by the way molitov cocktail wars are fun as well. One of the guys I was playing with asked us all how you put out the fire once you're on fire. My smart ass of course said "Stop, Drop, And Roll". Good times for sure. I also enjoyed the Turf Wars mode. You basically just go to certain points on the map and stand there for like 20 seconds and hope that the other gang doesn't put a cap in yo ass before you control that section of the map.

Top 5 WORST One Hit Wonders Of 1987

What a terrible year for one hit wonders. This might be the worst. I'll just start off by saying that there is really only one song worth mentioning. There were a few one hit wonders from 1987 that I hate with every fibre of my being. I'm making this my top five WORST one hit wonders of 1987!

1) Club Nouveau - Lean on Me (I really and truly hate this clubbed out dance version of Lean On Me. It's just pure crap. IT actually puts me in a bad mood when I hear the beginning of this when it happens to play on the radio. Is there reaqlly any need for this to ever be on the radio again? Brutally terrible! It's one of my most hated songs ever.)

2) Buster Poindexter - Hot, Hot, Hot (Some of you are thinking that this is worse than my number one. It's basically a tie. Again pure crap!)

3) Pseudo Echo - Funkytown (God, nother crappy dance cover song. It sucks. It sucks bad. I feel bad for even wasting the time it took to write the song title down.)

4) Living in a Box- Living in a Box (This band thought thought the name of their band was so damn good that they wrote a song about it. I have a feeling the members of the band really are living in a box now.)

5) Swing Out Sister - Breakout (God-awful rubbish.)

Man, 1987 really sucked for one hit wonders. There is just one one hit wonder that I thought was awesome in 1987.

1) T'Pau - Heart And Soul (Love it! It destroys every other one hit wonder from 1987 with ease.)

STARS MOVE ON TO THE CONFERENCE FINALS!!!

It went into quadruple overtime, but FINALLY the Stars dispose of the Sharks.
Marty Turco was incredible tonight. I've never ever seen him play as good as he did tonight, and I've been watching him since his days with the Kalamazoo Wings. He'll need to be just as good as he was tonight when the Stars face the team that I hate with a major passion. That team being the Detroit Redwings. It was easily the most exciting low scoring Dallas playoff game I've witnessed. I gotta give major props to the San Jose Sharks. They didn't go easy or quietly. With Dallas up 3-0 in the series the Sharks just kept fighting to stay alive.

GO STARS!!!!!!!!!!

Had A Good Experience Today

I did a Listener Round Table today with a couple of the guys from Xbox Podcast as well as a couple of listeners. Definitely had some laughs. Hopefully it turns out well. I also hope that people weren't thinking I was talking too much. Today's round table really makes me want to start a podcast of my own. I know I've been saying I plan on starting one, but my chosen co-host really isn't an up to date video game geek like I am. There are a bunch of games that I just couldn't discuss with him because he's not up to date with newer games. I know we could totally entertain people because we click like you wouldn't believe. We've cracked many people up over the years. I'll have to try to come up with a format that would work for us, I guess. It won't just be about video games. We'd have the robster craws section as well. That would definitely include topics from the 80's.

Anyway, enough of my rambling. If anyone reading wants to check out that round table discussion I believe it will be on episode 56. Which I believe is being released this Monday. I've been a loyal fan of the show for about a year now. It's a favorite of mine. I hope they plan on doing more round table discussions. As long as they invite me to do them I will be there. Xbox Podcast

BTW Wingman709, I hope you don't mind that I lifted and used your image. :)

Also, anyone reading can check out Wingman's blog here Wingman's Hangar He's a very cool guy who happens to be a gaming maniac like myself.

Top 10 Gaming Podcasts

I listen to a lot of gaming podcasts. A few I have actually stopped listening to for one reason or another. One reason is because the more entertaining podcasts just make the mediocre ones seem terrible now. In the beginning I was downloading every gaming podcast I could find. Now I'm sticking with what entertains and informs me. You basically have to do both to hold my attention. I'm also finding that I really enjoy gaming podcasts where the hosts discuss games they are playing and have actual discussions about said games. There are some hosts that I just find brutally dull and boring. I don't care how much you know about gaming. If you don't have any personality or charisma people will not want to listen to you for the length of a podcast.

Here's my top 10 in no particular order.

Xbox Podcast

Evil Avatar Radio

Podcast Beyond

Three Red Lights Podcast

IGN Game Scoop

Video Game Outsiders

CAGcast

1up Yours

Major Nelson's Blogcast

Time Once Again For Random Thoughts

First I'll start with GTA 4. After playing the single player campaign for a couple days I have to say that it's a really good game. It's not the greatness that all of the reviewers are giving it. With that being said I have NOT played any of the multiplayer modes yet. It's basically just GTA with more to do, and it's prettier. Some improvements have been made for sure. It's definitely easier to aim guns now. I'm also finding it easier to get away from cops. The cut scenes need work though. Graphically they are lacking polish. Just based on the single player campaign I'd give it a score between 8.5 - 9.

I have an issue with gamers and game review sites. Why is it that most games get talked about a lot before release and then for a week or two after release, but almost nothing after? It's like games only stay new and relevant for a couple weeks then they are old news. It's crazy how a game that is four or five months old is considered old news by most. This is probably one reason why I always feel like I have to buy a game when it comes out. If I don't I feel like I'm out of the loop. Gamers always seem to be looking into the future instead of savoring recent games.

My Dallas Stars will try to close out the series with a win in San Jose tomorrow night. They'll face the Redwings if they win this series. I'm almost hoping for a monumental comeback by the Sharks. I just don't see Dallas beating Detroit. Sad, but true.

Song of the day is "The Duellists" by Iron Maiden. (I cranked POWERSLAVE today at work on the mp3 player. Greatness = this album)
Games I'm Playing:

Halo 3: ODST (Xbox 360)

About Me

I'm 38. I'm addicted to Xbox 360 gaming and Dallas Stars hockey. I make a decent living at a boring job where I run two autoclaves and do various other tasks. My escape from this boring as hell life is video games, hockey, and music. I generally listen to Metal music, but I also love 80's tunes as well as 70's tunes. I have an unusual love for the band Overkill. They do it for me for some reason. Blitz is GOD!
